Realizing the need of phasing-out the use of animal models by not only adopting the validated methods but also developing newer and efficient models and their validation, rapid scalability to the industrial level, the mission took off quite long back. A team of stakeholders that includes Prof. M. A. Akbarsha and Prof. Y. K. Gupta, Prof. S. Raisuddin, Dr Vijay Pal Singh and Dr Adip Roy worked together to shape the forum. Subsequently, other like-minded stakeholders joined this mission. There can be no better occasion than this Conference to launch the Indian Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (ISAAE). The Society, with its founding Headquarters at the UGC-sponsored National Center for Alternatives to Animal Experiments, and formerly Doerenkamp-Zbinden Foundation - sponsored Mahatma Gandhi-Doerenkamp Center for Alternatives to Animals in Life Science Education, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, primarily aims to closely work with stakeholders in academia, research institutes, government agencies, regulators, industry, social and voluntary organizations to facilitate creation a pool of indigenously developed and validated alternatives for biomedical research.

The Society also seeks to closely work with other national and international societies, forums, and advocacy platforms. It will organize its annual event besides workshops, and awareness programme among general public and school- and college-going student
