BIO
Dr. Anam Wasey is an Assistant Professor of Law at the School of Law, Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies and Research (HILSR), Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. She holds a Ph.D. in Law from Jamia Millia Islamia and an LL.M. in Family Law from Amity University, where she was awarded the Silver Medal and Shri Baljit Shastri Award for her academic excellence. Her areas of teaching and academic expertise include Muslim Law, Hindu Law, Law of Contracts and Crimonology, Penology and Victimology.
Dr. Wasey has teaching experience in India and internationally, having served as an Assistant Professor/Lecturer of Law at Villa College, Republic of Maldives. Her research interests primarily encompass personal laws, gender justice, women rights, Islamic jurisprudence and contemporary socio-legal issues, with an increasing engagement with interdisciplinary themes involving technology, pharmacy, bioethics, climate justice and law.
She is the author of the book "Muslim Divorce Law: An Asian and African Perspective" (2024) and has published extensively in peer-reviewed and refereed journals on Muslim divorce law, gender equity, Islamic feminist discourse, women rights, bioethics and technology in Muslim Law and other contemporary legal issues. Her scholarly work also includes contributions to edited volumes and articles in prominent newspapers and legal platforms.
Dr. Wasey is actively engaged in academic leadership, research, peer-review, curriculum-related activities, dissertation and thesis supervision, conferences and faculty development. She currently contributes as a Reviewer for academic law journals and is serving as a Consultant on a socio-legal study on Triple Talaq and Muslim Women in India sponsored by the National Commission for Women. She has also been invited as a subject expert, conference session chair, speaker and external examiner by several academic institutions.
Beyond academia, Dr. Wasey has participated in international interfaith, youth and leadership initiatives, including programmes associated with the University of Birmingham, British High Commission in India, Arigatou International and the Global Network of Religions for Children. She represented South Asia at an International Forum in Hiroshima, Japan and has contributed to world dialogues on interfaith harmony, child rights and social justice.
She combines rigorous legal scholarship with student-centred teaching and a strong commitment to constitutional values, gender justice, social responsibility and the transformative potential of legal education.
