Prof. M. Z. Abdin, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, School of Chemical and Life Sciences (SCLS) is a distinguished scientist, academician and administrator with four decades of research and more than three decades of teaching experience. During his association with the University, he has served as Dean, SCLS; Head, Department of Biotechnology; Director, Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development; Finance Officer; Chairman , Board of Studies; and member of the Executive Council and Academic Council. He has also served as Vice-Chancellor of Singhania University, Rajasthan.
Professor Abdin completed his Ph.D. in Plant Physiology with Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as minor subjects from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi in 1991, following his M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Botany from Aligarh Muslim University.
Professor Abdin has guided 54 Ph.D. scholars as Supervisor and 31 Co-Supervisor, besides mentoring 98 M.Sc. dissertations. He has participated in international conferences, scientific programmes and academic interactions across USA, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, China, Mauritius, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Iran and Bangladesh etc.
His contribution to science, education and academic administration have been recognized through 12 national and international awards and honours, including the J.J. Chinoy Gold Medal Award (2025), Vigyan Ratan Award and Bio Spectrum Public-Private Partnership Excellence Award, along with recognition in international rankings of highly cited and influential scientists in Plant Science.
