The AYUSH system holds exceptional potential to emerge as a vital alternative resource for enhancing global public health. Among its components, the Unani system of Medicine stands out as a remarkable and integral part of the AYUSH framework. However, to realize this potential, it is essential to conduct comprehensive scientific research on Unani Medicine and to provide training programs aimed at competency development for AYUSH professionals.
The Centre of Excellence (CoE) is dedicated to advancing the vision of its founder Chancellor, Janab Hakeem Abdul Hameed Sahib, by fostering state-of-the-art research in traditional medicine, particularly Unani. The CoE integrates modern pharmaceutical approaches and drug development concepts to elevate the field. Established with the support of the Ministry of AYUSH under the Ayurswasthya Yojana, the CoE is a well-equipped laboratory designed to promote research on Unani and other traditional drugs, formulations, and medicinal plants. Its focus areas include quality control, metabolomic profiling, pharmacokinetics, stability studies, toxicity assessments, and biological screenings, all aligned with global standards for drug development.
The primary objective of the CoE is to undertake this challenging mission by conceptualizing and executing cutting-edge scientific research while training AYUSH professionals in modern scientific techniques. Through these efforts, the CoE aims to bridge the gap between traditional medicine and contemporary scientific advancements, ensuring the integration of Unani Medicine into the global healthcare landscape.
