Centre of Environmental Quality and Sustainable Development (CEQSD)

With the ever-growing economies and the need and greed for more, the doctrine of Sustainable Development becomes the most relevant principle in today's times. The doctrine of Sustainable Development has most commonly been defined as development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.  The new sustainable developmental Goals given by the United Nations have a major focus on many environmental issues such as clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy and others. EQC Jamia Hamdard is already working on issues related to the environment through varied modes, be it the involvement of students, faculty members or residents in and around Jamia Hamdard.

Environment Quality Cell will be upgraded to the Centre of Environmental Quality and Sustainable Development (CEQSD) and proposes the implementation plan under the following subheads:

 

  1. VISION OF THE CENTRE  

 

The Centre of Environmental and Sustainable Development (CESD) at Jamia Hamdard will be a translational centre which will create a social fabric of critical thinking, ecologically responsible individuals for a circular economy for restoration of ecosystem through analysis of sustainable systems, integrating education, research, training engineering-based approaches with insights social sciences to develop action-oriented, policy relevant responses to long-term environmental and social issues. 

 

  1. MISSION OF THE CENTRE

 

The Centre will transform Jamia Hamdard into an Eco-Village which address to emphasise behavioural change at individual level for the contribution towards Sustainable development goals for securing economic development and social development.

 

2.1) OBJECTIVES OF THE CENTRE 

 

The prime objective of the centre is to promote education, research, and outreach the needy society. 

 

  1. To foster dialogue to create awareness about basic environmental issues within the community.
  2. To support solutions to local and regional sustainability and environmental issues. 
  3. To engage and support faculty and students in all aspects of sustainability and environmental issues.
  4. To provide resources and activities focused on education, scholarship, and service to the community.
  5. To encourage and engage in hands-on activity and field trips.
  6. To award environmental scholarship for learners pursuing research in the field of environment.
  7.  To initiate exchange programs with other global centers for a global perspective on environmental issues and sustainability.
  8. To encourage leveraging technologies edge technologies and world-class best practices for searching sustainable solution for problems in environment sustainability.
  9.  To evolve teaching curriculum which aims at teaching segregation of waste at home level.
  10. To Biotechnology to give solution for environmental and sustainability issues.
  11. To develop various suitable programs in the field of environment, climate change and sustainability.
  12. To act as an urban observatory for the improvement of the functioning of urban and local bodies.
  13. To take up R & D activities such as projects in the thrust areas of Environment, climate change and sustainable development.
  14. To disseminate knowledge to the society through development of skill development programs and community development programs.
  15. To encourage interaction with national and international institutions of repute for collaboration, sharing of knowledge in a mutually beneficial way.
  16. To address the issues of government organizations / department and local industries for better environmental management.
  17. To explore avenues in sustainable agriculture, public health and sanitation.
