Basir Ahmad

Dr. Basir Ahmad is a faculty member at the School of Chemical and Life Sciences, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. He was appointed under the prestigious University Grants Commission (UGC) Faculty Recharge Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at strengthening high-quality teaching and research in Indian universities.

He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Aligarh Muslim University and has carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Florence, Italy, and Michigan State University, USA. His academic training reflects a strong interdisciplinary foundation spanning protein chemistry, biophysical chemistry, and molecular drug discovery.

Dr. Ahmad’s research focuses on protein conformational dynamics, folding–misfolding mechanisms, and amyloid aggregation, with translational implications in major disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), migraine, tuberculosis, and environmentally induced metabolic and neurological conditions. His work integrates advanced biophysical techniques with computational approaches, including molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and free-energy calculations, to understand disease mechanisms and design therapeutic candidates.

A distinctive aspect of his research is the scientific integration of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), particularly Unani medicine, with modern molecular biophysics. Through systematic biochemical validation and in silico screening of traditional bioactive compounds, he aims to develop mechanism-driven, evidence-based therapeutic strategies that bridge classical knowledge and contemporary drug discovery.

Dr. Ahmad has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications in reputed international journals and has actively mentored numerous Ph.D. and M.Sc. students. His work reflects a strong commitment to translational biotechnology, interdisciplinary research, and academic excellence.

He is open to research collaborations and academic partnerships in the areas of protein misfolding, computational drug design, and environmentally linked disease mechanisms.
