Prof.(Dr.) Ozair Alam, Professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular modelling, and icharge Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Modelling Lab, is affiliated with NIRF ranked #1 - School of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. Dr. Ozair Alam’s area of expertise include drug discovery and development with synthesis and structure activity relationship of medicinal agents, modern analytical techniques like mass spectroscopy and IR spectroscopy and computer aided drug designing - molecular docking with Schrodinger Maestro, ADME prediction, virtual screeningand QSAR studies. Being awarded with the prestigious title of “Young Scientist” by the DST with various certificates of appreciation for his research work and achieving ahigh citation index of paper in impact factor publication in 2012. As a research scholar, Dr Ozair Alam has been a highly dedicated person, an entitled gold medalist for excellence in academics. He has written extensively on the previously mentioned topics and have successfully published numerous research papers for the same. His research work has been recognized by international journals with research papers published in high impact factors journals like – European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Elsevier; Bioorganic Chemistry, Elsevier; Journal of Chromatography B, Elsevier; Archiv der Pharmazie, Wiley; Medicinal Chemistry Research, Springer and many more. He was awarded with the P. D. Sethi Annual Award in 2010 for best research papers on application of TLC/HPTLC in Pharma, Herbal and Miscellaneous Analysis.
Apart from the various academic achievements, he is also the in-charge of the IR and UP-LCMS Instrumentation facility of SPER. He has been actively involved in the administrative roles of the university and was appointed as an Deputy Proctor and Deputy Superintendent Examination. He is also a member of the Indian Society of Analytical Scientists.
As a result of his immense knowledge in the field of molecular modelling, he has conducted many workshops for the aspirants who wish to know more about the different computational designing with chemoinformatic and bioinformatic software like QickProp, Molecular Dynamics, Glide, QSAR and Dock-4.
Currently, Dr. Ozair Alam is supervising 8 research scholars on different fully funded projects focusing predominantly on anti-diabetic treatment by computational designing and synthesis of PPAR gamma modulators, Alpha-glucosidase and DPP-4 inhibitors. He is also engaged in the development of novel and effective cytotoxic compounds targeting mainly EGFR Kinase, COX-2 and MAP kinase inhibition. He has received very high amount of grants from government funding agencies and private consultancies for his research work. He also conducts medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis and validation, Computer aided drug designing theory lectures and practical experiments for Bachelor’s of Pharmacy students along with the designated role of supervising the thesis project work of Master’s of Pharmacy students. Currently, Dr. Alam is supervising 09 PhD scholars
