BIO

Dr. Mirza Sarwar Baig currently serves as an Asstt. Prof. at the Centre for Virology, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. With a research career spanning over a decade, he is recognised for his contributions to virology, genomics, host-pathogen interactions, and computational biology. Dr. Baig was awarded a prestigious NESA Distinguished Scientific Award 2025 by the National Environmental Science Academy, New Delhi. He is also a recipient of a postdoctoral research associate fellowship and Co-PI of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-funded project from July 2019 to July 2022 (Letter No. VIR/Fellowship/40/2019/ECD-1) under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. He has served as an empanelled academic counsellor at IGNOU from 2020 to 2022 and as an editor of the International Journal of Virus Studies (IJVS, E-ISSN: 3049-1924).

Dr. Baig is also a recipient of the UGC Non-NET PhD. Fellowship (2013–2017) from the Government of India during his doctoral research on pathogen-derived resistance against devastating begomovirus (ClCuV) at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He also won the Best Poster Award at a national biotechnology workshop in Bhopal in 2008 and the Best Essay Award from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, in 1995 at the Government High School, Phulwari Sharif, Patna. Dr Baig has actively mentored and built capacity through invited lectures, faculty development programmes (AICTE-ATAL), and international conferences, which have distinguished his career. Furthermore, he has made significant contributions to virology through research projects, training programmes, and public awareness initiatives. He is a committed scientist whose work bridges molecular virology, computational biology, and infectious diseases. He has authored more than 20 impactful peer-reviewed research articles in international journals. His work on dengue, SARS-CoV-2, and leishmaniasis is highly appreciable. He has authored six international book chapters with renowned publishers, including Springer Nature, Academic Press (Elsevier), CRC Press, and Apple Academic Press, addressing advanced topics in molecular diagnostics, gene regulation, and drug delivery systems.
