Faculty Biodata – Dr. Mohd Akhtar Ali

Dr. Mohd Akhtar Ali, born on 05 March 1986, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ilmul Saidla (Unani Pharmacy) at the School of Unani Medical Education & Research (SUMER), Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, where he has been serving since 11 April 2025. He is proficient in Urdu, English, Hindi, Arabic, and Persian. His official affiliation is with SUMER, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi (PIN 110062). He can be contacted at drmakhtarali@gmail.com and holds Teacher Code UNSD00003 and Employment ID 04438.

He obtained his MD in Ilmul Saidla from National Institute of Unani Medicine (NIUM) in 2016 with First Division, after completing BUMS from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in 2012. He also earned a Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education from IGNOU, a certificate in Laboratory Animal Care and Management from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), along with certifications in Health Care Waste Management, Computer Applications, Punjabi Language, and Fazilat from Mazahir Al-Uloom, Saharanpur.

Prior to joining Jamia Hamdard, he served as Assistant Professor at the State Unani Medical College & Hospital, Prayagraj (2022–2025) and at Zulfeqar Haidar Unani Medical College & Hospital, Siwan, Bihar (2017–2022). Throughout his career, he has held several academic and administrative responsibilities including Nodal Officer for Quality Council of India (QCI) at SUMER, Member of the Board of Studies, Member of the Expert Committee for framing the PG Curriculum in Ilmul Saidla under NCISM (2024), Member of Institutional Ethics Committee, Coordinator of Pharmacovigilance Cell, and Member of various syllabus framing and academic committees at university and state levels.

Dr. Ali has made significant scholarly contributions to Unani pharmaceutics and pharmacognosy. He has edited and translated two classical Unani texts into English and Urdu, authored six international book chapters with reputed publishers, and published more than 36 research papers in peer-reviewed, indexed journals including Scopus, UGC-CARE, and Web of Science listed journals. He also serves as a reviewer for Biomedical & Pharmacology Journal and the Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Education and Research.

He has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences since 2015. Notably, he delivered a scientific lecture at the International Avicenna Conference held in Bukhara (Uzbekistan) in 2025 and was awarded Third Prize for poster presentation during the World Unani Day International Conference at Jamia Hamdard in 2026. He has been invited as a speaker, moderator, rapporteur, and resource person at various academic platforms across India.

He successfully completed a UGC-sponsored Faculty Induction Programme from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2025 with Grade A and has attended over twenty CMEs, workshops, and research methodology trainings organized by premier institutions such as NIUM, AMU, CCRUM, and Jamia Hamdard.

His core academic interests include Unani pharmaceutics (Ilmul Saidla), classical pharmaceutical processes and their modern standardization, pharmacognosy, phytopharmacology, regulatory and pharmacopoeial aspects of Unani medicine, and modification and validation of traditional dosage forms.
